Boring News Stuff Regarding This Olde Blog

Last year, my life situation looked a little different. Well, because of COVID-19, it coincidentally looked much the same. I’d not been feeling well last Aprilish. After suddenly craving a specific Mexican food item on a Sunday evening, I thought, Oh no; it can’t be THAT. Several insistent phone calls the next day led to a positive pregnancy test reading and ultrasound.

…and to a subsequent order of bedrest once an intrauterine blood clot kept whining.

All last summer; I balanced being pregnant, running two blogs, occasionally writing for another, reading others’ posts, and trying to keep my living dependents -well- alive. It. was. awful.

“Next summer,” I vowed from the bathroom floor, “I’m taking a break like _[insert several bloggers’ names here]_!”

Long story long, that’s what I’m gonna do. Take a break, I mean.

I’ll finish up “Going Postal” and a few writing prompts and awards I promised I would respond to. Then, I’m unplugging for a while. I need the free babysitting of public school and the better-sleeping of an older baby to add ‘blogging’ to the top of my tippy pile of demands.

After a week or two, I’ll not see you again till September. Thanks for the understanding and support, and best of luck with your own summers/winters.

I have never looked like this in my life, but you can picture my being like this if it makes you feel better.

  1. You will be missed. And you are wise to do what you have to do. I appreciate the heads up, as I do worry when folks disappear. Come back rested, refreshed and renewed. (There’s already a pool, folks is saying you won’t last, you’ll be pushing that plug back into its square holes in less than a week) But maybe they’re wrong; have a great summer either way.

  2. We’ll miss the wit and wisdom… well the wit.. you be good to yourself and we will be here when you’re good and ready to deconstruct my hapless – maybe partially happed – poetry. Love you, kiddo. See you on the other side.

  3. All the best for the break, Chelsea. I’ve taken several over the years. Gradually I find that blogging wears thin and I have to get away from it. At present I’m on auto-pilot have scheduled daily postings until 5th August – so in reality I’m not blogging! Ouch! We’re just having a huge earthquake….

  4. I hope you have a good break. Only just found your blog so kind of bummed that you’re leaving. Definitely do what’s right for you though.

      1. I feel like I take a two-week break after every post I write! 😜 When I post only a couple times a month, it’s not that time consuming. But I totally applaud the break idea. I did it often with Facebook and Instagram, until one day I realized I was better off dropping the two time wasters completely. I don’t regret it for a second!

  5. I’ve only been blogging a little over a year, but #1 and #1A should be looking after yourself and your family. Enjoy the break, and perhaps you’ll come back with all sorts of wisdom for the rest of us. Your photo and caption made me laugh out loud.

  6. Sounds from the comments people want you to take over my blog. It’s all yours if you want it. Your so better at this than me.
That sounds like a plan. Every so often you just need to focus on the truly important stuff. So hope this works out well for you. My email is always open to you. Take care. Gary xx

  7. Firstly, look after you and yours. Both our offspring arrived underweight but well, thanks to required bed rest for a few months. Or that’s what my wife and her midwife both told me, with a slight smile! It had been said this virus would lead to a baby bump. See you when are ready.

  8. Get some rest, m’dear! Lifing, especially adulting, is hard. Everyone needs a breather now and then. All the best to you.

  9. I will miss your writing and encouragement. However, taking care of yourself and enjoying your family are absolutely top priorities. After some rest and a renewed focus on those things that are most important, you’ll probably come back feeling like the person in the picture. Stay true to yourself.

      1. Eh… You’ve let some things slip. I assure you, that doesn’t count out the things you haven’t. Besides, you have some very good excuse– er, reasonings. Some of us… Don’t. And still don’t manage half so well!
