“Do not try to save
the whole world
or do anything grandiose.
Instead, create
a clearing
in the dense forest
of your life
and wait there
patiently,
until the song
that is yours alone to sing
falls into your open cupped hands
and you recognize and greet it.
Only then will you know
how to give yourself
to this world so worthy of rescue.”

  1. It’s an interesting quote and I like it. It’s comforting to believe that it’s ok to wait until something approaches us. And that we might not know what the something is or why it’s approached us.\

The quote reminds me of the lyrics to the Grateful Dead song, Box of Rain:

“Reach out your hand if your cup be empty
If your cup is full may it be again
Let it be known there is a fountain
That was not made by the hands of men

There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night
And if you go no one may follow
That path is for your steps alone”

Good to see a post from you and I hope you’re all doing well.

  2. Girl , we have been through a major trial . Glad to see your friendly name in the reader feed . I meant to text you , but it’s been non-stop . Maybe we already talked and I just forgot . Either way , how are you doing?!

  3. I’m not typically a poetry guy, but that is an amazing piece of writing.

Does this mean you’re coming out of blogging hibernation? Just teasing—hope all has gone well with your pregnancy.
