“My (Henry’s) mother used to say to me when I complained that things were hard, ‘If you are on the right path, it will always be uphill.’ And as the world becomes darker and more dangerous, we must keep climbing. It will be our choice whether or not to move up or to stay where we are.”
-Henry B. Eyring, “Raise the Bar“
I think your mother was right, Chel. I have never achieved anything without a lot of hard work and persistence.

No one says you can’t do that, too.

What an interesting quote from your mom, Chelsea. In the context of these dark days, I couldn’t agree more. And we’d better make that climb, or we and our children are going to face some darker decades.

Alas, it’s from Eyring. I think the source got cut off. And it’s a perspective I heard more from adults in our church in my past but not so much anymore.

I think your mom had the right idea. We can either wallow in self-pity or pick ourselves back up and do the best we can.

This is Eyring’s mother, but I agree. I like the message that we need to work hard against challenges.
