“I’m not sure it even matters what the artist thought they wanted when they sat down to create the work. The art itself seems to want something, to make a change in the world. And the ability to create art like that belongs to each of us.”

Yes!! I wrote a poem for class (2013) and what the other students read was true… it was not part of my conscious thinking. 🥰

you never know what you’ve got when you start writing; it’s like a dog chasing seagulls at the beach: the writing goes where it wants to go, on a grand, willy-nilly adventure of its own —

I think everyone’s interpretation is modded by their experience, therefore meaning is fluid, not fixed

Quite a bit to unpack in this. 🙂
I saw this with photography, now everyone has a camera of sorts; the infinite monkey theory in practice. Unintentional snaps looking as good as any professional’s work; not good for informed photographers.
At least it’s harder to write something brilliant accidentally – I know I’ve tried 😆

Yes. I will say that lots of practice in intentional art will allow this near-accidental run away of creativity.

I love this quote, Chelsea. Sometimes we must simply step aside and let the creative process have its way.

We have a successful artist in the village. He once talked about creating a work and then others bring it to life.
