“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy.
“The true neighbor will risk his position, his prestige, and even his life for the welfare of others. In dangerous valleys and hazardous pathways, he will lift some bruised and beaten brother to a higher and more noble life.”
-Martin Luther King, jr., Strength to Love, chapter 3
These are difficult times. Thanks for quoting Martin Luther King. I often wonder if it’s just wishful thinking hoping for some sanity in this crazy world.

I’m not so great at sanity and optimism, myself. I’m also heartened by his words.

Those were words he lived by, so he walked the talk. Nice to know there are some people in this world like that.

The trick is to have no prestige or position in the first place. If you do happen to have it, then get rid of it, for it’s a noose around your neck. Be the lowest of all men and look up to everyone. Don’t see giving of yourself to others as a chore, or even a responsibility. See it as an honour.

That is true altruism.

I’m not sure that the following quote is all that relevant to anyone else, but I add it anyway, because it make’s beautiful sense to me ….
“I have no money, no resources, no hopes. I am the happiest man alive.”
